After suffering DVD bootlegs of these two titles these past years, it was nice to finally come by both of these films officially, and on the same disc. I hafta say, the transfer quality is decent and offers crisper viewing of both films if you’ve only seen VHS transfers-to-DVD courtesy of Ebay as I only had, so I can’t really complain.

There are definitely parts in both that are washed out/speckled, but not so noteworthy that they’re annoying. One of the chilly things I enjoy about these Arkoff double features is BOTH FILMS are featured on ONE SIDE of the disc. There’s none of that double sided nonsense which ultimately renders one unlucky playing side scuffed over time. Here, the movie art is screened onto the topside of the disc and once in, there’s a menu to occupy you to either film.

For me at least, the main reason to explore these films is the monsters in them. The Paul Blaisdell (sp? ) shoestring budget, classic monster creations are a pleasure to spy despite not being featured as prominantly as this viewer would like. If you have pain stomaching old-school cheapie monster suits, then finish far away, especially if you’re an unshakable CGI accolyte cuz these rubber suits will create your eyes bleed and send you into seizures. But if you grew up on broken-down Distinguished MONSTERS issues and model kits, you could probably indulge in the creatures at least. The films:

“DAY THE WORLD ENDED”: I’d only seen a fleshy frame of this flick, so it was nice to survey it letterboxed or whatever that’s called. There’s parts of the pic’s image (the sides, the top & bottom are the same) I’d never seen before in my aged copy. The acting throughout is typical 50’s…a slight….err….. well….ALOT on the melodramatic extinguish, but hey, if you’re watching mature school flicks, this shouldn’t surprise you. I found the father …the man whose house all of the survivors gravitate to, to be a minute grating through most of his performance….in fact there’s a point in the film when he demands his daughter basically marry the Richard Denning character to populate the recent world which was not only comical in that ‘ooooooh uh uh, no he didn’t’ kind of plan to almost feeling like nails on a chalkboard it is so painful to gape, despite it trying to play as a heartfelt ….uh….heartfelt….uh……anyway…..

“THE SHE-CREATURE”: Man…I savor the suit make of this monster. Waiting for her to appear makes watching this mostly stilted movie bearable. I didn’t score it as dreadful as a few people I know….certainly no more terrible than other drive in flicks that I accumulate sizable pleasure suffering through, but it isn’t all that expansive either. The Hypnotist is such an over the top wannabe-all-powerful- villain, he’s a pleasure to ogle….most of the time. The chick who’s under his spell is a 50’s hottie, though her innocent victim allotment got a puny grating after a bit, I kept waiting for her to bite her knuckles in typicall 50’s fashion. Her ‘Hero’ was a bit stiff throughout his performance (no pun intended hehe;-) But hey…..remember…it’s all about waiting for the monsters.

OVERALL: They’re drive-in movies from method back-I adore this stuff. My friends sometimes wonder why I bother with them. There’s a heavy does of nostalgia alive to, but there’s also the fact that I can use 30 bucks at a theater these days and unruffled mosey out hating the movie. Here, for less than 15 bucks, I secure two films…infinite cigarette and bathroom breaks and no one chopping it up on their cell phones one or two seats over. These topple somewhere between Belief 9 and HOUSE ON Worried HILL in viewability if that tells you anything. For the stamp, they’re definitely worth it. Now when does INVASION OF THE SAUCERMEN approach out??????

NOTE: I give this entire package 4 stars for being a double feature and a value at its tag. I’d give each film a 3 on their occupy. Since these are supposed to be reviews of the PRODUCT as well as films, I needed to occupy that into tale. So don’t none o’ ya’ll email me screaming about how unpleasant you idea the films were but bought it because you expected a 4-star feature…lol!!!;-)

I’ve been waiting for some time for someone to finally release a copy of Day the World Ended in widescreen as it was originally released. Unfortunately, Lionsgate did it Contaminated. Although they obviously feeble a right widescreen print as their source, for some reason of their acquire they formatted it into the tainted mask ratio for their DVD–using 2.35 to 1 instead of the novel 1.88 to 1, which cuts off the top and bottom of the describe (in one scene, for example, you bag to view a talking NOSE at the bottom of the veil) . This is allotment of a disturbing trend among DVD producers, who are apparently trying to cater to the widescreen TV crowd (which makes it even MORE novel that Lionsgate went 2.35 to 1–as it will have to be letterboxed even on a widescreen TV!), at the expense of the novel film formats (which sometimes results in people with half-heads and no feet) . At least She Creature is paunchy cover (closer to the modern 1.33 to 1 ratio), but the print is a bit sad.

“The Quatermass Conclusion” is the fourth movie-length installment in the long-lived “Professor Quatermass” series of films, the first of which appeared fifty years ago with Brian Donlevy in the title role. That was “The Creeping Unknown,” which remains scary even after the black jading of our collective special-effects appetite. Donlevy reprised the Quatermass character in the 1958 sequel, known in the United States as “The Enemy from Situation.” Andrew Keir took over for the 1967 “Quatermass and the Pit,” called “Five Million Years to Earth” for transatlantic audiences. It wasn’t until 1979 that screenwriter Nigel Kneale managed to catch a fourth Quatermass account on film, this time as a BBC “mini-series” in four parts featuring John Mills as a by now frail protagonist. This is conceptually the most ambitious of the Quatermass stories: Kneale sets it in a world afflicted everywhere by social and economic collapse and - this is a key element in the unfolding epic - the withdrawal of young people, especially adolescents, from all communal ties. The landscape swarms with packs of juvenile “Set People,” as they call themselves, dressed in flower-child fashion awaiting their deliverance to a paradise planet. They hold that their redemption will occur at the passe megalithic sites and it is to these that they gravitate. Redemption it is not. Quatermass, coming to London from the countryside to contemplate a lost grandchild and drawn into the investigation of events, theorizes about “the harvesting of mankind.” He is aided by an astrophysicist played by Simon McCorkindale, whom many viewers will observe as a mask presence of the time. This is the most apocalyptic of the Quatermass stories, more so even than “Quatermass and the Pit,” with its mass revival of dilapidated Martian “bustle memories” in the human population of London, and with its subsequent wrathful “cleansing of the Martian hives.” The images of British society - and by implication all societies all over the world - in its material and lawful downward-spiral are stark and disturbing. A few scenes of a near-earth location state and of a status shuttle in distant orbit are unnecessary in that they scrutinize toy-like and detract from rather than add to the verisimilitude of the production, but this is quibbling. The atmosphere over the four hours of the legend becomes increasingly desperate and grim. Considerable equipment breaks down and is irreparable; key people die in riots. The climax smacks of the nihilism that I associate with the 1970s, but it could be interpreted as throwing Quatermass into the role of redeemer, complete with martyric self-sacrifice. A brief epilogue seems tacked on, as though the producers could not pick up the uncompromising final scene of Kneale’s script - but it does allow for some détente, which might be needed in the moment. Recommended for its far-above-average intelligence: “The Quatermass Conclusion” refreshingly does away with the hoary cliché that the young, and only the young, can put the world.

If your are familiar with the classic Quatermass films of archaic and you haven’t heard of this one, then let me possess you in. I don’t want to give too powerful of the storyline away so I’ll try not to spoil it for you. The author of all the Quatermass films, Nigel Kneale had written this to be the follow up to Quatermass And The Pit - he was commissioned by the by the BBC (world illustrious UK channel) to do it on the assist of that film’s success. Out of all this chaos, Quatermass arrives in London to appear as a TV guest on a slack night NASA programme. It’s being broadcast on the last operating TV place in the country. As they link up to a live satelitte understanding of the modern American-Soviet station spot, all hell brakes loose when it dissintegrates before their eyes and all astronuats are lost. The request is - why did this happen? Suddenly, things pick up more mysterious when thousands of Planet People around the world initiate to dissappear after converging on faded megalith sites.

This video area is a four hour narrative that will have you gripped on the edge of your seat. It remains suprisingly undated in an era of cellnet phones, internet and consumerism. I could imagine Nigel Kneale writing stories for Star Move (satisfactory as it is already) . Take this and blow your mind. The Planet People tranquil haunt my dreams with their chant of “Leh!Leh!Leh!Leh!Leh!Leh…”

The unusual X-men did veil a few adult issues and was quite heavy for younger children. These original series are really well done though there is a hint of The Novel Batman-Superman Adventures style. Overall, quite well done. The recent versions of Sabretooth and Wolverine is better although there are some disappointing things such as Toad’s unique and scrawny body. It doesn’t gawk like his figure was supposed to be adapted from any area, nor comical or movie. Magneto’s boundaries are better at some levels and worse than others. But the original area always wants you to notion it over and over again.

wildstorm comics are all flash and no substance. Please don’t compare to Marvel. Hee Hee

As for X-men Evolution, the stories are handsome advantageous,character designs are tremendous. The animation is as ample as sat. morning animation can earn. The acting was more believable than the fresh note which was heavy on the over dramatics. eg. “jean! Noooooooooooooooooooooo!” overall X-men is a tall demonstrate and worth waiting to occupy on dvd.

I idea this movie would mostly be for kids, but I believe I laughed as great if not more than the younger folks around me. The CGI is obliging, the status is desirable, and Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, and Robin Williams verbalize the goods. It was also a treat to observe Dick Van Dyke and Mickey Rooney in action again. Not to mention that Carla Gugino is a feast for the eyes. It’s nice to stare a obedient film for the whole family once every so often. It makes you feel like a kid again, without a care in the world.

This solid family movie from director Shawn Levy (the original PINK PANTHER, CHEAPER BY THE DOZEN 2) comes from a solid book like Jumanji, and Zathura, the 1993 kid’s mystery-comedy of the same name.Like the modern anecdote, Larry (or was it Hector originally) becomes a night guard at Recent York’s Museum of Natural History,in order to “grow up” in the eyes of his ex-wife and his son. He expects to have an easy time. But on his first night, he dozes off, then wakes up to a missing dinosaur skeleton.Soon his learns that history really comes alive at this museum and he’s got his hands corpulent keeping it in line.

Owen Wilson yet again teams-up with Stiller for a itsy-bitsy section literally, he’s a puny from an historical diorama (perceive Starsky & Hutch, The Royal Tenenbaums, Meet the parents, Permanent Midnight, Zoolander for more smart Stiller/Wilson team-ups) . Actually the role is more than a cameo and is gracious of the memoir. The two play off each other superbly, like a modern-day Bing & Hope, only laughable (I Kid, I Kid) .

Another standout casting is Robin Williams lending Larry a hand as an animated-wax Teddy Roosevelt. Williams is able to palatable his moments of insanity as a relatively static historical mentor while enfusing others with titillating realism and soulfulness (seriously) .

Loads of stout visuals, especially at the IMAX engagements, like the arresting dog-like T-Rex, Mammoths, stampedes and more. Definitely in the spirit of Jumanji, only with powerful more heart.

The first time I saw this movie, I absolutely hated it. The second time, I saw this “Unrated” crop, and suddenly I didn’t mind it so distinguished. I fact I kind of liked it. Maybe that had something to do with the fact that James Cameron himself said that he liked it, and I was under the influence of reading that.

Alien Vs. Predator is a sequel to the first two Predator movies, and a prequel to the Alien series. As such, it sets up how the Company from the Alien films first became aware of the Xenomorphs. The Company is represented by Lance Henriksen, playing the founder of the Weyland-Yutani Company, who later builds the Bishop android in Aliens, also played by Lance Henriksen. We can purchase that the dude in Alien3, also played by Henriksen, is a generations-later relative of this character.

A lot of B-level actors have been selected for this film, most of whom I’d never seen before. Most notably is Ewen Bremner, the “other” Ewen from Trainspotting. While nobody in this cast (apart from Henriksen) is on a level with some of the supportors from the Alien or Predator series (such as Bill Duke, Jesse Ventura, Tom Skerrit, Bill Paxton, or Michael Beihn), none of them are that terrible either. In fact they all have a sort of charisma, which is famous since you’re supposed to feel poor when they launch getting slaughtered.

The script is the weakest point of this film. Many fans have pointed out many inconsistencies with the Alien series. While a itsy-bitsy thinking can patch up most of these position holes, some objective seek wide originate no matter how mighty duct tape you try to build over them.

The broad two, which I can’t fathom an explanation for, are as follows. First, the life cycle of the Xenomorphs has been hurried so that they now burst out of your chest after what seems like minutes. Yet this is even contradicted later in the film, when a Predator gets infected with one! It takes him hours to burst out. Second, there appear to be more Xenomorphs in this film than there were human hosts. I don’t secure that. No explanations are attempted within the film.

Having said that, I assume this movie is easier to swallow than Predator 2 with its cheesy gang members, or Alien Resurrection with its improbable cloning of Ellen Ripley and Queen.

Disc two is the proper adore here. I watched the pre-production and post-production segments absolutely mesmerized. Paul Anderson is a charismatic director with a definite passion for Alien movies (the agreeable ones) and he clearly worships the ground that Jim Cameron walks on. As he and his crew lag us through the making of the movie, you really become infected with his enthusiasm. The fact that most of the movie was done with scale models with a minimun of CG honest makes is so noteworthy cooler. It’s worthy more fun watching guys blow up models than it is to see some guy do it on his Mac.

Initially I bought this movie simply to have a complete Alien and Predator collection. After watching this reduce, and the bonus material, I was twisted in. It’s not as unpleasant as I made it out to be the first time. It’s a popcorn movie. While the new two Alien films and the first Predator film were more cerebral, I occupy Alien Vs. Predator to be better than the later films of those franchises. I enjoyed it, and maybe you will too.

I fair read a narrate of an interview with director Paul W.S. Anderson (director of AVP) . He said quote “that all the best scenes were slash from the film.” He also said that the movie was always going to be R-rated until the studio enforced a PG-13 rating 3 WEEKS before releasing the film. In addition to the violence and gore lop from the film, a sub-plot that further explained the position was chop as well. If it had been in the film, the slash footage would have cleared up many continuity issues. For example, the sped up alien life cycle in this film is not a careless error at all; the machine that holds the alien queen captive also injects horomones and drugs in to her, speeding up the facehugger/chestburster process. The footage that was carve would have explained that and also would have given the characters more cloak time. Director Paul W.S. Anderson also mentioned that the explosion at the ruin took up HALF of the 65 million dollar budget (which is ridiculously improper for a film like this) .

So when you scrutinize this film and demolish up hating it, dont blame the director. He made a film that, if it had been released in the unusual slice, would have glad long time fans of the franchises. But instead, the studio made it PG-13 (so more people could spy it) and cleave out a lot of footage to do the film design too short (to fit in more screenings per day) .

BUT, the changes the studio made are helping. Currently the film is making A LOT of money, mostly because of the PG-13 rating. This means that the studio will be more likely to greenlight AVP 2 or, more importantly, ALIEN 5. But try to realize that if the film had been released in the fresh uncut version, it probably would’ve only made half the money the novel slit has because not as many people would have been able to view it.

Luckily, an R-rated Director’s prick WILL be released on DVD sometime in the future. This edition will up all the violence and gore to an R-rated level (all the off mask deaths will now be ON-screen as originally filmed) and add in an additional sub-plot that will sure up continuity issues, give the characters more shroud time, and construct the residence development clearer. As a long time fan of the fresh 6 R rated movies, I was Contented to hear this.

Unfortunately, movies aren’t made to be friendly anymore. They’re made to construct money, and AVP is doing that factual now. So when you examine this film, know that you aren’t seeing the final version of the film. But PLEASE gawk it because it needs all the money it can originate. And also, PLEASE steal the director’s slice DVD when it comes out because its gonna kick a**.

This is a nice bio of one of the legends of Las Vegas and beyond. Louis’ life is explored from his family’s immigration on through to his death in the slack 70s. There are many insightful moments represented here thanks to interviews with music historian Will Friedwald, Prima’s bandmates Sam Butera, Keely Smith, Gia Maione and others as well as members of Prima’s family. Overall it’s a nice production but I wish there could have been more concert footage where instead a song like “Impartial a Gigolo” is played over stock footage of the Vegas strip and people gambling in casinos. What concert footage there is though, is priceless with Louis, Keely and Sam hamming it up for “Objective a Gigolo” and “That Faded Shadowy Magic” as well as a duet with Gia Maione on “I Want You” that is one of this video’s highlights. The main scrape with the video is that it leaves you wanting more. Remarkable more.

Great review of this jazz master’s career, from Unique Orleans, to Recent York (where he penned the immortal “Hiss, Thunder, Scream”) and on to his later triumph as a Vegas showman. His gift, and his gab, are clearly on point to here through archive footage and kinetoscopes of early TV appearances with Keely Smith. Loaded with interviews, photos, recordings and rare films. If you mediate you knew about Louis Prima, this documentary will initiate your eyes. Among some of the funniest moments are some footage of Louis recording the Disney tune “I wanna be honest like you” for THE JUNGLE BOOK. A titanic film about one of the 20th Century’s colossal jazz artists.

While this film highlights how a college student makes the leap from school to professional life, I also own that it highlights Meryl Streep’s spacious talent although she is not the lead character. She gives such a commanding performance as the dominant impossible boss. In fact there are several outstanding supporting characters such as Stanley Tucci. He is priceless as the guy you worship to despise. A really obliging script, plus tremendous actors equal a substantial movie!

This could easily be dismissed as another “little-fish-in-a-big-pond” account, but the improbable script and graceful acting by all sets it high above the rest. Meryl Streep was terrific, though she was allowed to reveal a soft side a few times, which took away from the “bite” that may have been implied by the title. (I had a boss like that, but mine was meaner and showed less sensitivity) . Streep is not the main character, however, and Anne Hathaway shows jabber in the central role. There’s fine befriend from Adrian Grenier, Stanley Tucci and Emily Blunt. The shots of Modern York City (and of Paris) are huge and impressive, and, as one would ask, the costume designs are dazzling, though few are unique for this film. David Frankel’s direction kept things arresting at a swift dash, and the DVD extras are animated and informative. I enjoyed “The Devil Wears Prada” very distinguished.

This boxed position the best thing I’ve bought from Amazon.com to date. I appreciate the Ocean movies for their star-studded cast, the fantastic humour, and the hundreds of other things that compose these movies fresh. The extras aren’t all that ample, but I usually recall movies for the exact movie, not the extras… So if a lack of elegant special features doesn’t bother you, and you don’t have the movies already, you should definitely bag this region. Easily worth 5-stars in my book.

The reasons I enjoyed this movie are: 1. Chow Yun Burly. This suited actor never fails to give his best to any type of role he undertakes. He often overcomes any flaws in the script itself, and I feel that is what he did here. He has played many different types of characters and never repeats himself. I enjoyed his humour as well as his action scenes. They were suberbly choreographed. I have that the presence of John Woo had great to do with that.

2. I was gay to ogle that this movie, unlike many others today, was more than unprejudiced a lot of action but had some region, laughs,excitement,and sterling fun for the audience.

I liked that the heros did some righteous deeds such as saving a person from the wheels of a subway remark, and returning a wallet to a man on the street,etc. But then, when Mr. Chow has played the abominable guy in many of his Asian films, he always had the persona of a villian with a heart, such as going assist into a burning building in one frail film to effect a baby

4.I was a bit disappointed in the lack of a lot of lush scenery and sets, but what was there was appropiate to the station.

5. The fight between the two women reminded me of “Crouching Tiger, …..” Go glimpse it you’ll like it!

Going into this movie it can go either plan depending on the audience participation. The movie starts off really well with a mountainous mix of both comedy and action and like I said before it all depends on the audience participation. There will be points when the film requires you to engage in a joke inorder to follow through to the next one. Sometimes the jokes are substantial and lead into a grand action sequence that will have you repeating character dialouge and saying “How did you do that? ” Chow Yun Beefy has to be one of my popular and fourth as the most recognizable Asian actors. Most people will go in with the deep impression of Crouching Tiger and it will attend when Yun Stout passes on some comedic dialouge. Fifteen or twenty minutes into the movie you’ll launch to score this Matrix vibe that takes away from a huge action comedy. Detached the characters intention you in with a extraordinary comedic performance. Unfortunatly though the movie starts to become to predictable towards the raze and accumulate a dinky off touch with the over all understanding of the film. A crazy Tim Roth looking guy comes into play and the whole movie starts to stink to high heaven. It reminded me to worthy of those cheesy made for the tremendous shroud video game flicks like Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter. Overall though it made me laugh and that’s glorious great what I was looking for. A cramped disappointed with the lack of veteran martial arts fight sequences that I was expecting from Yun Bulky but as I said overall it was inspiring. A mammoth comedy but a so-so action film.
