If one were to ask a film critic what they mediate to be the greatest movie ever made, “The Rocky Awe Describe Expose” would most likely not be a well-liked respond. If you recognize at this madcap rock ‘n’ roll musical from a purely cinematic point of notion, it’s easy to understand why: an amateurish attempt at a narrative, less than stellar performances, virtually nonexistent production values, and some of the cheapest special effects ever captured on film (even for the year 1975) . When caught up in technicalities and a longing for mainstream purity, then one would have a perfectly superior argument for “The Rocky Dismay Relate Prove” being one of the worst movies ever made.

But if one were to ask a fan of the film why they admire it so considerable, I guarantee you that their reason has nothing to do with production values or mainstream desirability. Quite the opposite–it’s a film that’s shunned by most audiences. This hasn’t stopped it from becoming one of the most successful cult films ever made, grossing to date over $100 million (this is over a thirty year period, mind you; it’s initial release was a worry) . This is because “The Rocky Apprehension Report Exhibit” is not honest a motion narrate. It’s a pure social and cultural experience, one that has liberated numerous people labeled by society as “misfits” or “outcasts” with its message of, “Don’t dream it, be it.”

It’s also a ritual that warrants midnight gatherings on Fridays and Saturdays dressed as one of the film’s characters. The fun is enhanced through the utilize of props (such as rice, water pistols, and toilet paper, all of which are venerable on cue) as well as by the act of shouting indecent lines benefit to the cover. This trend of audience participation has remained a staple in “Rocky Anxiety”’s successful history and only adds to its appeal. Can you imagine how slow it would be to conception this film in the privacy of your beget home?

Above all else, it’s an opportunity to have fun, allowing for (and often encouraging) the release of the party animal within us all. Only at a “Rocky Dread” showing would no one blink when seeing an audience decked out in fishnet stockings, glittering corsets, and pasty makeup plastered on their faces. Everyone is uninhibited and no one cares what others may believe. What a tall excuse for a year round Halloween party.

“Rocky Scare” is also about the music, with some of the most classic songs ever recorded, including the explain stopping “Sweet Transvestite,” the delightfully sappy “Dammit Janet,” and “The Time Warp,” the film’s signature song (which prompts the audience to secure up and dance along with it) . In fact, I’d go so far as to say that the very fabric of the film’s greatness depends on the music. And why not? The oddball mix of science fiction, dismay, sex, and comedy objective aren’t enough; all that can be seen in plenty of other cult films. Give us something more, something that would leave a lasting impression on the ones who took the time to search for what this movie was all about. Through music, “Rocky Anxiety” does that, and does that well.

Of all the performances in this film, Tim Curry as the transvestite inflamed scientist Dr. Frank N. Furter is the most memorable. His decadence and sexual overdrive hits us like a ton of bricks and never lets up. (And who really wants it to? ) In the tradition of Frankenstein’s Monster (who has objective advance out of the closet), Frank actually creates a muscle man named Rocky for the sole purpose of “relieving his tension.” The Middle American, wholesome young couple Brad Majors (Barry Bostwick) and Janet Weiss (Susan Sarandon) couldn’t be more out of situation in the world Frank lives in, which makes the station they’re in all the more involving. Things only catch weirder when you throw in a houseful of servants with quirks of their contain, such as hunchbacked butler, a voyeuristic maid, and a tap dancing groupie. Top that off with the film’s sinfully zigzag epic about the night that Brad and Janet expend in Frank’s castle, and you have all the ingredients for a cult classic.

Like such offbeat films as “Forbidden Zone” and “Pink Flamingos,” “The Rocky Awe Report Indicate” is a film that is experienced, not seen. From its humble beginnings as a London stage play to the creation (and initial failure) of the movie we all know today, “Rocky Dread” has given narrative creator and Riff Raff portrayer Richard O’Brien a godlike set among fans. The film is pure camp from initiate to finish: fun, cheesy, and challenging. Whether you’ve seen it 1,000 times (some have actually seen it more than that) or are seeing it for the first time (which would impress you as a “virgin”), it remains to this day a very modern portion of celluloid history.

Well, what are you waiting for? Pop in the DVD. Don your garter belt, spiked heels, and party hat. Salvage your water pistols, newspapers, and lighters. And above all else, let’s do the Time Warp again!

Well, here you have it, people. The greatest cult phenomenon of all time, a film that will shock you and surprise you, a film you will never forget as long as you live - “The Rocky Dismay Describe Display”.

When this silver camouflage classic was released in 1975 after being performed onstage in London and Current York, it was a substantial flop. However, the film slowly gained popularity when some local Novel York movie theaters started showing it at mdinight, and the reaction was wild. Audiences brought their beget props, they came to the theaters dressed as their accepted characters, and even made up their hold dialogue for the film and roar it at the cover.

Now, 30 years later, you can experience this timeless filmon dvd. Digitally remastered by the advantageous people at Fox, you can now experience it all over again. Some people may call this film tacky and even offensive, but don’t believe a book by its conceal until you peep athese features:

See! The tremendous stars in this film before they were noted. Susan Sarandon (as Janet), Barry Bostwick (as Brad), Meatloaf (as Eddie) and, of course, Tim Curry (as transvestite Dr. Frank - N -Furter) lead the pack of a talented bunch of actors in this inspired combination of comedy, musical and science - fiction.

Hear! The classic songs that are mong the best in musical history. Find ready to do dance “Time Warp”, bop to Meatloaf’s “Hot Patootie” and be “touch - a, touch - a, touched” by the sweet romantacism of “Dammit! Janet”.

And last but not least, watch at the imperfect taboos that were unruffled unheard of in movies from 1975, including homosexuality, lesbianism, tranvestism, nudity, violence and sex. Best not to contemplate it with kids under 12.

This dvd also comes with racy special features. You can contemplate the film in two different versions, the U.S. and U.K. version (the U.K. version has an alternate ending), audio commentary by cast members Richard O’Brien (who wrote the play) and Patricia Quinn (who played Magenta, the sister of O’Brien’s unfriendly Riff Raff) . You can also ogle the film with the audience participation. It’s as if you were in the theater! PLus, there’s grand more.

Basically, what I’m saying is to hold up this dvd. I’m distinct that anyone with even the slightest bit of sterling taste will be pleased this film classic.

This a 2.35:1-framed transfer and offers viewers the opportunity to behold John Carpenter’s film with unparalleled clarity that easily surpasses its previously-released dvd ounterparts. Broad Misfortune in Exiguous China occasionally looks a bit rough around the edges but is otherwise presented on Blu-ray with an overall first-rate appearance. Lo Pan’s makeup and costumed attire construct up the bulk of the flashy colors to be found throughout.

The overall color palette is not one that’s meant to pop off the hide with a exquisite array of hues, but what is here tends to leer rather suited. Detail appears as above average throughout matching the theme of the transfer as a whole, there’s nothing here that’s truly worth noting, but the Blu-ray is consistent in its delivery of a stable, good-looking 100 minutes worth of high definition goodness.

Some viewers may be set off by a layer of grain that spikes heavily at times but often remains fairly unobtrusive. Blacks aren’t too problematic, and flesh tones appear as a fairly neutral shade throughout. Mountainous Disaster in Itsy-bitsy China fans should be more than elated with 20th Century Fox’s presentation.

Audio Quality 4 out of 5

Big Misfortune in Cramped China features the usual DTS-HD MA 5.1 lossless soundtrack and this one impresses greatly in context and livens up considerably once the film’s action gets underway. Music sounds rather paunchy but is generally miniature to the front and it plays clearly enough. Sound effects tend to enjoy up the front half of the soundstage and travel nicely from side to side. The barrage of gunfire in chapter eight sounds loud and definite with shots seeming to emanate from each of the speakers. Generally speaking, though, the bass checks in on occasion to clean things up.

A rather grand outburst in chapter 13 is representative of the lows scattered about the soundtrack. Noteworthy like the video presentation, Tremendous Anxiety in Shrimp China’s lossless soundtrack is an above-average anxiety that should satisfy the discriminating listener and longtime fans of the film.

Special Features 4 out of 5

The audio commentary brings together friends John Carpenter and Kurt Russell in a fun-filled, laugh-filled reminiscence about making the movie. Russell is in stitches through considerable of the track laughing uproariously as the two talk about what their intentions were for the film and agreeing the tone for the movie was likely ahead of its time.

Special effects coordinator Richard Edlund is interviewed about his work on the movie. The viewer is given the option of having visual stills projected into a exiguous window while he’s talking or having them displayed elephantine conceal.

There are three theatrical trailers which can be selected for viewing. Two U.S. trailers and one Spanish trailer.

There are six TV spots which can be viewed individually or in one bunch.

A gallery of stills from the film and behind-the-scenes may be selected for viewing either automatically or the viewer may step through them more fleet.

In the raze Tall Anguish in Slight China was perhaps a miniature bit too ahead of its time, a satiric, seriocomic adventure film that is captivating in spite of its imperfections. The result are depraved action scenes and hair raising droll moments.

For fans of the film, the verdict is positive, you have to believe this blu-ray version, even if it means you will have to recall a blu-ray player. For everyone else, I can only say pick up this disc or you will be missing out on one of the most unusual and delightful action-comedy-movie highlights Hollywood has ever produced, now looking better than ever.

Over the top statement? You bet your […] it is. So is this movie. It takes elements of sci-fi, fantasy, kung fu, and even western movies and mashes them up into the most satisfying concoction. Drink up!

Jerome Kern died while MGM’s bio-pic TIL THE CLOUDS ROLL BY was aloof in the pre-production stage–and while Kern had been more than willing for MGM to notify all, his estate was considerably more reticent. In order to avoid any moral issues, MGM scrapped their unique intentions, wrote up a fluffy script that bore exiguous similarity to Kern’s life, and crammed the film with every musical star available in a non-stop series of drop-dead-stunning production numbers. The result may be extremely poor biography, but leading man Robert Walker and co-star Van Heflin preserve the sentimental epic moving–and the musical numbers are piled on top of each other so fleet that one doesn’t really query it. The film opens with a lengthy montage from SHOWBOAT, Kern’s innovative masterpeice, that features knock-out performances from Lena Horne, Katheryn Grayson, and Virgina O’Brien and then hasty seques into a series of star-solos that feature June Allyson, Gower Champion, Cyd Charisse, Angela Lansbury, Dinah Shore, and Frank Sinatra.

Along the arrangement we are also treated to an extended cameo by Judy Garland, performing “Examine For The Silver Lining” precisely as Marilyn Miller played it on stage and singing “Who? ” to a staircase of chorus boys–which Garland was said to earn most humorous, considering that she was pregnant at the time. Also important is Lucille Bremer in the role of Robert Walker’s stage-struck ward; although her star mercurial primitive, Bremer is an graceful performer and shows her talent for song and dance here by teaming with Van Johnson for a intriguing version of “I Won’t Dance.” TIL THE CLOUDS ROLL BY will not appeal to most casual viewers, for the chronicle line and script are mighty too broken-down. But musical fans will savor this one all the arrangement from Lansbury doing a Cockney “Spoon With Me” to Sinatra belting out “Mature Man River.” As a Jerome Kern song-and-dance fest, the movie can’t be beat, and it should have a state in every musical fan’s collection.

Though only marginally a biography of Jerome Kern, and with a corn and syrup station, anyone who likes ancient American musical theater will luxuriate in this film, which is a expansive showcase for Kern’s unbelievable songs.

Robert Walker as Kern, and Van Heflin as his arranger James Hessler are top-notch, but this film is all about the music and the singers, especially Judy Garland. Lena Horne, and Frank Sinatra.

Directed by Richard Whorf, with Vincente Minelli directing the Judy Garland portions, and musical numbers staged by Robert Alton. Total running time is 132 minutes.

I fill a cheap DVD edition (released by Vina) which is remarkably obvious considering the notice, though it has a tiny “bootleg” quality to it.

Musical numbers include:

Excerpts from “Showboat”, with Lena Horna fine singing “Can’t Abet Loving that Man of Mine”. Others include Kathryn Grayson, Tony Martin and Caleb Peterson.

“Howja Like to Spoon Me” from the “London Gaieties” with Angela Lansbury.

“They’ll Never Gain Me”, Dinah Shore.

“Till the Clouds Roll By” from “Oh Boy” with Ray McDonald.

“Leave it to Jane” with June Allyson and Ray McDonald.

“Leer for the Silver Lining” from “Sally” with Judy Garland. This may be the most absorbing song of the film.

“Who” from “Sunny” with Judy Garland.

“I Won’t Dance” with Lucille Bremer and Van Johnson.

“Smoke gets in Your Eyes” from “Roberta” with Cyd Charisse (a short but graceful dance) .

“The Last Time I Saw Paris” with Dinah Shore.

“The Land Where Excellent Songs Go” with Lucille Bremer.

“Yesterdays” by the chorus (one of my current songs) .

“Long Ago and Far Away” with Kathryn Grayson.

“A Comely Romance” with Virginia O’Brien.

“All the Things You Are” with Tony Martin.

“Why Was I Born? ” with Lena Horne.

“Veteran Man River” with a great vocal performance by a very bushy-haired Frank Sinatra.

Kevin Costner should stick to playing likeable average guys in films like ‘Tin Cup’! Ron Shelton, who had worked with the actor earlier in one of the best baseball films ever made (’Bull Durham’), takes on the trials and tribulations of a journeyman professional golfer in this outing, and while it lacks the charm and comraderie of the earlier film, it manages to accomplish the solitary nature of golf more human and acceptable to all the non-golfers out here.

It is not the best golf film ever made (that honor goes to the Randy Quaid comedy, ‘Dead Solid Perfect’), and it does have flaws (the slow pacing, some overlong scenes), but there is such a warm, fuzzy feeling to the entire film that you ruin up rooting for Costner, both on the golf course, and in his pursuit of Rene Russo (who is incredible!)

Cheech Marin provides welcome comedy relief, and Don Johnson’s slick smarminess is a perfect counterpoint to Costner’s gonzo arrive to golf and life.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Tin Cup! Click Here

Costner’s laid-back charm, perhaps his greatest asset as an actor, is often lost in sci-fi epics like ‘Waterworld’, and ‘The Postman’, or tearjerkers like ‘Message in a Bottle’. Sports films are a far better venue for him (’Bull Durham’ and ‘Field of Dreams’ are cases in point), and he is relaxed and confident in ‘Tin Cup’, making this one of his best performances.

Buy it! You won’t be disappointed!

Kevin Costner is one of the most athletic actors in film history. Not many others could have made Rupture Davis believable in Bull Durham. In this movie, Costner shows his athletic ability again, playing a round of golf with a variety of gardening tools and swtich-hitting his drives.

Costner also shows another side of his talent - his title role is a not-too-bright loser. This is a titanic departure from his record heros in Waterworld and The Postman. As you might suspect, he’s a better loser than he is a hero.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Tin Cup! Click Here

One other thing about the golf in this movie - while some of it is resplendent out there (does ESPN really televise pro-am’s from podunk towns in West Texas? ), there’s nothing really unstable. No PA guys doing play-by-play or generic white uniforms or anything like that. The scene on the driving range before the US Begin is a classic!

The rest of the cast is solid, and Cheech Marin nearly steals the movie (as he often does) . The spot does acquire one mountainous surprise (the kill isn’t what you deem it’s going to be), but is fairly predictable otherwise. The soundtrack is substantial, the West Texas and North Carolina scenery is ample, and there’s more than a few laughs.

Pick it up and luxuriate in!

A quintessential example of Studio comedy of the early 1960’s, `What A Arrangement To Go” owes all it’s charm to its cast. Topping the list is Shirley MacLaine in a funny performance not to be missed. She brings a unique kooky charm to her Louisa as she careens from one marriage to the next totaling a roster of husbands with Mega-Star power that today would have sunk 20th Century Fox on salary alone.

Here it’s all about timing, reaction and hump. All of witch Miss MacLaine is an expert. It is a sheer joy objective to witness her steal a thin fable and execute magic out of it. Dick Van Dyke, Paul Newman, Robert Mitchum, Gene Kelly, and Dean Martin succor her in her romp across the cinemascope camouflage.

Buy,Download, Or Stream What a Way to Go!! Click Here

There are two standouts in the husband department for me, first, Paul Newman as an ex-patriot American artist in Paris. Rarely do we accept to look him finish a silly turn and here as Larry Flint he is both sexy and humorous. And Robert Mitchum as Rod Anderson, the maple syrup king is a delight.

The cleverest aspect of the tale is the expend of Louise’s remembrances of each marriage as a different genre of film from the restful veil to the enormous splashy musicals of the 1950’s. The funniest occurs when she is married to Mitchum. It is a Lush Budget production all the procedure. Also of brand is the enormous dance number with Gene Kelly, in and of itself a lampoon of Mr. Kelly’s well-known routines over at M.G.M. a decade before.

Also of notice is the favorable color and cinematography of Leon Shamroy modern off his Oscar accumulate with “Cleopatra” the year before. (Designate the in-joke jabs at Cleopatra and Richard Burton in two segments.) And glittering good up there with her best work are the handsome costumes of Edith Head.

This DVD also includes runt extras the best of which is a newsreel of the day called “What A Device To Go To The Resplendent.” It chronicles the films opening at the 1964 Novel York World’s Comely. It is a gem all it’s fill.

Buy,Download, Or Stream What a Way to Go!! Click Here

What a arrangement to go is a light delight and a prime example of a bygone age of glamour and excess. And above all it is Shirley MacLaine’s film all the procedure and it is the only map to go!

The epitome of fluffy 60’s escapism with Shirley MacLaine at her kooky best and a dream cast of leading men sending up their cover images. Add to this a vast budget, the most despicable costumes of an snide era, and a witty script by Comden and Green that blends romance, satire, slapstick and fair a pinch of cynicism. It’s colossal and overblown and all the better for it. And I’m delighted to relate that it looks fabulous on this dvd in widescreen and vibrant color.

Shirley MacLaine made several screwball comedies in the 60’s such as Woman Times Seven, John Goldfarb Please Approach Home, and The Bliss Of Mrs Blossom, but What A Scheme To Go is one of the best. She is helped immeasurably by a galaxy of stars portraying the men in her life - detached and oily Dean Martin, rubber-faced and loose-limbed Dick Van Dyke, bearded and self-spoofing Paul Newman, surprisingly charming Robert Mitchum, the always toothsome Gene Kelly, and a somewhat manic Robert Cummings. As an added treat, the Marx Brothers’ passe foil Margaret Dumont is wonderfully over-the-top as MacLaine’s dragon of a mother. You impartial don’t collect casts like that anymore.

Another nice touch is the design several genres of film are spoofed as MacLaine wistfully recalls the best days of each of her marriages. The musical extravaganza with Gene Kelly, in particular, is a exact joy. Kelly was over 50 but quiet had all the moves while MacLaine reminds us what a improbable dancer she was - with equally astonishing legs. I also loved Paul Newman as the world-weary abstract artist. Many people forget that he made a number of comedies procedure help when, and that he was shapely obliging in them.

What A Diagram To Go was not a immense hit when it was released, primarily because it was made at a time when the emphasis was on youth and this film was seen as an instant relic that would appeal only to the Doris Day/Rock Hudson crowd. How unfriendly they were. Forty years on, What A Device To Go is mild new and laughable, unlike many other Swinging 60’s comedies.

Other reviewers on here have mentioned films they would like to observe released on dvd. I’ll add an primitive, little-seen approved of mine - The Art Of Adore with James Garner and Dick Van Dyke. Well, I can hope, can’t I? In the meantime, I deem I’ll seek What A Diagram To Go again.

The Da Vinci Code is a movie that has been the object of critics’ scorn since Cannes. Therefore when I went in my expectations were quite vulgar. I was pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed this lustrous care for hunt. Action sequences boldly intertwine with quieter scenes where codes and symbols are being deciphered to lead to the next clue. Hanks and Tautou accomplish like the pros that they are–it is intriguing that two actors known for their whimsical charms were cast in such serious roles. Generally actors starring in thrillers will be those known for their laconic delivery and quietly passionate intensity. However, Tom Hanks was playing a professor of symbology and as such he did a ravishing job.

The supporting cast reads like a list of international superstars: Alfred Molina, Ian McKellen, Jean Reno and Jurgen Prochnow–all were satisfactory.

One of things I liked about this film is how it gave the audience the opportunity to plan the world from the perspective of someone who is veteran to looking at symbols and their meanings, in particular of things that most of us don’t even watch most of the time. It was an recent and enchanting angle on perception.

This a movie that tries to pack some very deep concepts into the thriller/treasure hunt genre. Overall I believe it succeeds rather well.

The fictional masterpiece –and historical disaster– “The Da Vinci Code” is an extremely though-provoking book (two years of reasearch and Brown couldn’t figure out that Leonardo da Vinci was known as “Leonardo”… since “da Vinci” means “from Vinci” — where Leo was born) .

So, how did it flee as a movie?

Quite well, I’d say. You can’t inquire of a awful movie when Ron Howard works with the likes of Hanks, Tatou and McKellen. Needless to say, the acting was above and beyond. The direction was obliging and the memoir flowed with fabulous ease. The tension was show with every turn as was the mystery slack it all.

However, as most book-to-movie adaptations, it loses some of it grandeur. The twists are less lively and it’s a bit more predictable. I must admit that the movie is gorgeous faithful to the book. However, in trying to region all of the book’s riddles in the movie, the characters had less time to “de-code” them. Therefore, they seemed like all-knowing geniuses that casually figured out the most complex mystery in no time. The result? It gets confusing and plain. The myth is unbiased as flawed and as poorly-researched in the movie as in the unique. I guess this also counts as a fidelity, depending on how you observe at it.

If you demand a lot of in-depth “da Vinci” exploration, don’t. Only a few works of Leaonardo get an appearance and his name is mentioned twice, exactly. If you deem that this movie/book is as stop to the truth as you can gather, you must not find out powerful or haven’t read any other book in your life. If you contemplate that this is a well acted movie with a so-so residence and extraordinary direction, welcome aboard.

If X-Men 3 is sold out, go survey this movie. If not, rent it. It’d be a nice rental.

Season 6 introduces us to Ms Wilder, Almonzo and Perley Wilder, Nels Oleson’s sister Annabelle, Caroline’s father, and Nellie’s future husband Percival. Season 6 contains 23 episodes and some of the best Shrimp House on the Prairie episodes ever! It also contains some of the biggest tear-jerker episodes ever. I must admit, the quality of the sound and characterize is not what I had hoped it would be. Very awful quality.

This is one of my all time favourite seasons of Tiny House on the Prairie which ran from 1979 to 1980, and I’ve been looking forward to getting this one for some time. This is the season when we first meet Almanzo Wilder(Manny) and the beginning of Laura’s crush which really was worship at first eye. Almanzo doesn’t know she exists which leads to some very lively predicaments. Who could forget the Cinnamon Chicken with a exiguous extra spice or Almanzo ‘rescuing’ “Beth” (Laura Elizabeth) from Nellie? The season climax is the resolution for Laura’s like for Almanzo which is really quite sweet. Melissa Gilbert grows up before our eyes during this season, but we have to wait until the 7th season before they net married. This is also the season when Rev. Alden gets married, and also when, through the episode of Annabelle, that they tackle the sensitive inform of being overweight and loving someone for what they have on the inside. I am hoping that the 3 allotment Thanksgiving series will also be included with this DVD. I am blissful to observe that there are some extra features as well. Thank you to Jamie for listing all the episodes.

Aug. 2006: When I wrote this review I did not realize that parts of the episode “Sweet 16″ have been omitted in this dvd release. They also didn’t include the Thanksgiving 3-part series, “The Shrimp House Years”. LHOTP fans deserve better. It makes me wonder what else they crop out and it is most disappointing.
