The A-Team - Season Four

Average User Rating:Average customer review:

When it first came out on TV on January 23rd, 1983, THE-A-TEAM ranked 10th on the Nielsen rating (The Percent of all TV-equipped homes tuned to the program on an average night, as measured by Nielsen Media Research) . The Second season rated even higher ranking 4th out the best 30 TV shows, The 3rd season rated 6th and the fourth season rated 30th. To me that is a very excellent and worthy represent. In fact, THE-A-TEAM is number 98 on the Top 100 Series of all Time until the 2002- 2003 season.

Hello, all of you “A-Team”‘ers out there :) I bought this dwelling when Season 1 was released as a “blind-buy” select, having never seen this series when it aired in the 80’s or in syndication (I know…hard to enjoy…:) ) I bought the state in memory of my Dad who watched this exhibit after he was retired from his job. I remember laughing at Dad when he told me he never missed this reveal. Now, the laugh’s on me :) I cherish this series! Astonishing…plus I’ve had the wintry experience of watching these eps for the 1st time on DVD. Currently, I’m viewing Season 3. Season 4’s in the mail. I’ve heard some forum talk that Season 5 wasn’t up to race compared to the previous 4 seasons. So, I’m not sure I’ll gamble on Season 5 yet. I haven’t noticed any contrast between S1 thru S3; I’ve loved every episode of the ones I’ve seen up to this point. Be that as it may, “The A-Team Rocks” :) (Hard to absorb a “Baby Boomer” said that, proper? ) :)

The Land Before Time III - The Time of Great Giving

Excellent film, with appealing characters and well-chosen topics

This is a obliging one. I could behold this over and over (not as grand as the 7th one.) The T-rexes rocked! And Mr. Three Horn finally learns his lesson (not that he actully learned it, honest by looking at the other movies) But this is a fine one to pass down to itsy-bitsy kids, my celebrated song is “Kids like us.” Hip, Nod, and Mutt though need singing lessons! The ruin was cute also.

While this does say it is the complete collection, it is only the second half of it. There is an real Wolf’s Rain Box location available that does gain the entire series. This is not it.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Wolf’s Rain: Complete Collection II! Click Here

This collection contains the last half of the prove and is, in my concept, the greatest position of ending episodes in any anime I have ever seen. As Kiba, Toboe, Hige, Tsume and Cheza continue their search for paradise, getting continuously closer, so too are the nobles and Darcia to attaining paradise for their bear means. As the humans Cher, her ex-husband Hubb, and the Wolf hunter Quent also become increasingly entangled between the oppressive nobles and the truth of The Book of the Moon, the setting is situation for the most challenging location of episodes I have ever witnessed. By the time the series reaches its climax, an emotional attachment will have been achieved between the viewer and the characters that pulls you into the anecdote and makes you truly feel for all the troubles and heartache they experience. The last half of Wolf’s Rain is filled with drama, action, suspense and surprise occurances throughout. There is unbiased no draw you can seek this indicate and not be in apprehension. I highly recommend this collection for anyone who is a fan of stout entertainment, anime or not. The anecdote, characterization, and deliver work (not to mention the incredible music provided by Yoko Konno) Wolf’s Rain will contrivance you in regardless. So whether you steal the series in a two section collection or derive the tubby box spot elsewhere is up to you. Either map, you won’t be disappointed.

First off, I’ve fair got to say, I loved Wolf’s Rain. This series is resplendent. From the animation to the music to the situation. Everything is amazing… I especially loved the ruin to this series. Here’s why. (and I won’t spoil great, so it’s marvelous to read)

The first half of the series really pulled me in. It caught my attention and held it. But when I started to peep this, I really could not end, I watched this in one sitting. The last few episodes were extraordinary. Proper, there was a positive ambiguity to the ending, but all in all, everything was wrapped up nicely. As you learn more about the pasts of the wolves, Cheza, and the other characters and as they search out Paradise, things really inaugurate to drop apart. While watching this, you’ll be wondering, will they net Paradise, what cost will they have to pay to derive there? And you’ll net out. You may not like the raze, but I actually found it to be very attractive.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Wolf’s Rain: Complete Collection II! Click Here

The only thing I’ll spoil is this, you’ll probably need a kleenex or two…the last 5 or so episodes had me in tears nonstop.

Even so, I HIGHLY recommend this series to anyone willing to contemplate it. It’s vast.

This is one thing you will certainly advance away with after watching the film.

As a scuba diver, sharks are what you want to perceive, especially the whale shark, but they are generally so jumpy they will certainly hold their distance.

The film sees Catch Stewart peep the `Darwin’s theory of evolution’ Galapagos islands and Costa Rica. Remove is a professional underwater photographer and videographer so the images he captures while gliding through the depths are aesthetic. That is until they turn to the finning operations, the corruption and images of sharks caught in a long lines where you can but ponder `what is humanity doing’.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Sharkwater! Click Here

This film really gives you a wake up call to the importance of the oceans and the sharks region at top of the food chain to preserve everything balanced.

The books emphasis goes more on the role of the Sea Shepherd, the ocean’s eco systems and gives you a chance to see again at the gracefulness of the shark.

A must watch/read.

Sharkwater: The Photographs

A beautiful and worthy documentary film about the illegal fishing of sharks for the Asian food market that is both riveting and pretty to recognize. The film documents director Assume Stewart’s discovery and determination in letting the public know about the spot of sharks being killed off. The High Def imagery/cinematography is simply amazing and I’m certain the Bluray disc will peep equally impressive as when I saw it on the AFI’ Silver Theatre DLP system in March of 2006. The film is distinguished in educating all about the misconceptions and slaughter of sharks, it is both enlightening and ultimately heartbreaking - highly recommended!

Straw Dogs

Average User Rating:Average customer review:

People seem to savor or loathe this movie. I like it. Dustin Hoffman plays professor on “sabbatical” to write a book on astronomy and computers. There is some allusion to his having been driven to his sabbatical (or from his job) because of his refusal to assume a stand over some undefined drawl at his spot of employment. In any case, he retreats to a farmhouse in rural England with his fair wife, played by Susan George.

When some of the local underemployed thugs open bullying him–(The script and Peckinpah’s direction of the actors hits bull’s-eye here; having lived in England, I saw the same sort of behavior–punks all over, I guess, have mannerisms of bullying strange to their culture.)

The violent climax to this film is–you loathe to say it–beautiful. It certainly isn’t gorey by today’s standards. This, perhaps, is what makes people so gloomy about this movie–their absorb reaction to the violence. Hoffman conveys wonderfully both the scare and the satisfaction his character is experiencing.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Straw Dogs! Click Here

At one level, this film exists as a simple myth of revenge. At another level, the movie affirm’s Peckinpah’s vision of violence as a rite of manhood. Whether this rite is a regrettable one . . . well, that remains arguable, and this ambiguity is piece of what makes this such a watchable, and re-watchable, movie.

Aside from the notoriety, and aside from the viciousness (the film leaves you most of all with a taste of viciousness in your mouth, a sour, bitter, metallic taste, akin to that feeling you accumulate reading “The Tin Drum”, the allotment of metal stuck in the help of your throat), what you gain from “Straw Dogs” is a manifestation of personal demons (specifically, Sam Peckinpah’s personal demons, but also, both more generally and more acutely, masculine demons) and an exploration of a determined type of male sexuality.

To do the film justice, you need to scramble your brain in. Which, on the surface, may not appear to be the case, because the anecdote - what it is - is relatively simple. It’s an English western.

David, a mathematician (Dustin Hoffman), is on sabbatical from the university where he teaches. He has left the states and returned with his wife Amy, (Susan George) to the limited English village in which she grew up. From the word go, David has to contend with the fact that Amy has a history in the town. He also has to contend with the fact that she is younger than him, and bored. Her boredom serves as a distraction from the reason unhurried his sabbatical. Amy on the other hand has to live with a serene, “peculiar” American who does not give her the attention she requires.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Straw Dogs! Click Here

Within the town, there are various echoes at work: there is a character called Niles, played by David Warner, who has a known history of problems relating with women (to the extent that he has served time for undisclosed offences) ; there are the locals, who divide their time between procrastinating over work on David and Amy’s roof, and leering at Amy (who periodically informs David about the achieve she has on them, how they “lick her all over with their eyes”) ; and there is David himself, spending a small more time than he really should looking at teenager Sally Thomsett.

All of which feeds into the awful rape scene (a scene of which Peckinpah is quoted as saying - in the kindly biography “If it moves . . . waste ‘em” - “I wanted to film the best rape scene ever” - a line ripe with complexity and honest disorder) : Amy is raped by Charlie, leader of the leering locals, who may or may not be her childhood sweetheart (two earlier scenes point to that (a) something went on years earlier and (b) Charlie took it further then than Amy was overjoyed with) .

At some point during the poor protracted rape, for whatever reason (and there is something manifest at work in her face, palpably desire but desire for what - who knows? ) she stops fighting and starts (frightful this, but correct - this is what happens in the film:) - starts to participate. The participation is taken (by some) to be a playing out of a determined retrogressive masculine attitude (that all women - deep down etc etc etc) . However you elaborate it - and it does require interpretation, importantly - the participation is at the gloomy heart of “Straw Dogs”‘ notoriety. The fact that this is followed by the appearance of a second man, and a second rape, only compounds the concern - the cloudiness - that will inevitably surround any attempt to precisely screech what is going on here.

At which point, the echoes become level-headed more manifest: you have Niles, despised because of his weakness for young girls (and as such - in the context of the character’s lives - a “dreadful” man), you have the men who rape Amy (a fact that remains undisclosed within the body of the film), men who later attempt to avenge themselves on Niles (in a shining reworking of “Of Mice and Men”), and you have David - a man in whom, perhaps, all of these violent urges conflict.

The film culminates in a series of extremely violent (and ridiculous) altercations, veering wildly between extremes (shotguns firing off left, suitable and centre, characters riding tricycles and playing bagpipe records, mantraps, boiling rotund, fire, pokers, broken glass, wire) . But the central relationship - the whole dynamic of the film - between David and Amy continues to fight definition, remaining ultimately unresolved and unclear.

In the waste, aside of everything else (aside of the fact that this film lingers with you, you do not spy “Straw Dogs” and leave it at that, those “Straw Dogs” bewitch up status with you, for a while), you have the fact that this film would not regain made today - the Dustin Hoffman character is too complex and too unsympathetic, and there are too many (coldly shiny) questions raised by what goes on.

It is dissatisfying but intentionally so: this is Peckinpah’s “Salo”: it demonstrates that resolution is the most monstrous abstraction, that what gets wrapped up leaves the viewer with no dwelling for thought: that which is left start, is that which remains discussed. At the kill, almost a week after last watching the film, I am reminded of what Ian McEwan wrote in his original “Dusky Dogs”: “…I came face to face with spoiled. I didn’t quite know it at the time, but I sensed it in my awe - these animals were the creations of debased imaginations, of perverted spirits no amount of social theory could epic for. And . . .when conditions are just . . . a poor cruelty, a viciousness against life erupts, and everyone is surprised by the depth of hatred within . . . (But) This is what I know: Human nature, the human heart, the spirit, the soul, the consciousness itself - call it what you like - in the waste, it’s all we’ve got to work with. It has to create and expand, or the sum of our misery will never diminish.”

That is - at last - “Straw Dogs”‘ role: to obtain, to expand, to present us what can be, what needn’t be, but what is, and hope that something else (not necessarily finer) but something else, prevails.

I watched the first two volumes of this anime and I can say that it is hooking and inviting that I couldn’t gather enough of it. Ok! I know that the English dub is despicable, so I went for the Japanese language with the English subtitles. I always go for the Japanese with the English subtitles because it sounds more new. If you can honest overlook the English dub, you will like this anime for certain.

The myth is about a 12-year-old Mitsuki who wants desperately to become a singer, so she can fulfill her promise to her first worship, Eichi. She always wanted to be a singer but her grandmother is against her dream because she is blaming Mitsuki’s father who obsolete to be a singer, for her daughter’s death. There is another dilemma, which is that she has a malignant tumor in her throat and she has to go through an operation but she might lose her remark with this operation, so she refuses to go through with it.

That’s when she met the two death spirits, Takuto and Meroko. Takuto will form her into a gorgeous 16-year-old girl in order to have a chance in the audition and she won. She then decided on her stage name to be, Plump Moon.

I wonder what will happen with Mitsuki and Takuto because it seems that Takuto has a crush on her. I like Takuto so great and I wish that he and Mitsuki will raze up together.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Full Moon, Vol. 1: I Want to Sing! Click Here

I liked the Ending theme, “Original Future” of the first six episodes. It is so stunning.

If you’re alive to, you can also read the manga. I have all the volumes except for the final seventh volume, which is going to be released this month. There is a microscopic disagreement between the manga and the anime in some of the scenes but I liked the anime more.

Try to stare it and you are not going to regret it, if you can fair overlook the English dub.

I have to scream you upright now that I’ve seen probably 30 or so complete anime series and out of all of them, this is my popular. I’ve seen all 52 episodes and I have to say that it might be a bit uninteresting paced, but once it gets going, it impartial takes off running and the prove fair keeps getting better and better as it goes along. The series is basically about a 12 year conventional girl named Mitsuki who really wants to become a singer more than anything else in the world, but she has a malignant tumor in her throat that must be surgically removed soon. Mitsuki really refuses having the surgery, though, because there is a chance that she might lose her negate completely if they purchase the tumor. Then these two shinigami (or “death gods”), Takuto and Meroko, prove up (and they’re both absoutely hilarious and not monstrous like their name, by the draw) and remark Mitsuki that she has one more year left to live. So Takuto helps Mitsuki become a singer like she’s always dreamed by transforming her into a 16-year-old and she auditions for this large picture deal contest and wins. She names her stage persona “Stout Moon” and starts releasing music from her heart. She wants to employ the time she has left to dispute and she hopes that her childhood esteem, Eichi (who now lives in America), will be able to hear her deliver and her songs and approach him.

I have not viewed the dub yet as I have not purchased this DVD, but I can verbalize you that that new Japanese version is excellent with creative and beautifully sung songs and really heartfelt command acting by Myco (Mitsuki’s seiyuu, or command actor) . The songs are performed by Changin’ My Life, whose lead singer and writer of the lyrics is Myco and you can roar that they set a lot of time into the songs that are shown as Mitsuki’s singles throughout the series. Although I deem only one song, Novel Future, is shown in this volume, there are many others. This is a series that you really have to stick with, no matter how listless paced it might be, because the rewards in the long accelerate are countless.

I really do not wail during anime series, I judge I’ve only cried at maybe one or two final episodes of a series before, but not really that mighty. This series, however, was a Fling JERKER for me. I seriously would smash down every few episodes or so, especially in the second half of the series. Unbiased how Mitsuki’s emotions are conveyed and her memories with her (sort of) boyfriend Eichi and her longing to contemplate him again objective tugged at my heartstrings hard. I really can’t give anything away, but the series really made me scream towards the slay and the final episode calm to this day makes me bawl in a ecstatic draw. And I never weep when I’m glad. This series can awaken emotions in you that you never felt could be awakened and although it’s noteworthy slower and more filler than the manga is, I like it Worthy better than the manga (which I’ve also fully read) because it’s a bit lighter in tone and the scheme the myth is handled (especially towards the slay) is more touching and sentimental. I recommend this series if you like comedies (because it gets glorious damn amusing at times), romantic dramas, or fantasy/magical girl anime. But the magical girl fragment, I must stress, is NOT the core of the legend. It’s really outmoded as an afterthought (unlike a series like Sailor Moon, another one of my favorites by the device, where the main core of the demonstrate IS the fact that they are magical girls) and a space method rather than being a crucial share of the record. The crucial, main point of the narrative is really Mitsuki’s illness and her relationships with Takuto and Meroko and her longing for her lost appreciate Eichi.

Again, I can not stress enough how gigantic this series is. If you reflect you might like it, then impartial try it. It’ll be SO worth it and it might unbiased change your life and the device you consider. The only gripe I have about it though is that apparently these DVDs are only going to be released every 3 or 4 months and with 4 episodes per DVD, it’s going to bewitch 3 1/2 to 4 years to release all 52 episodes. That’s Viz’s fault for distributing them so far apart, it’s handsome ridiculous. If you cherish the series though, it’s really worth the wait. Indulge In.

This review refers to the 2002 DVD release on the “Image” effect (orange and green jacket) with film elements from “The Blackhawk Films Collection.”

SCROOGE is the first sound version of Charles Dickens’s “A Christmas Carol,” filmed in England in 1935. I reflect this is one of the best shroud adaptations of the epic. Ebenezer Scrooge is played with Fieldsian grouchiness and ad-libbed asides by Sir Seymour Hicks, who had played the role on stage for decades, and he’s terrific! (I suspect that Dickens scholar W. C. Fields caught some of Hicks’s performances.) Donald Calthrop is the best Bob Cratchit I’ve ever seen; Robert Cochran is toothsome as Scrooge’s nephew Fred, and Philip Frost is cute as Slight Tim. Director Henry Edwards deserves a round of applause for his careful handling of the tale. The period detail is wonderful, and the entire production is atmospheric and impressive. This version also goes a slight deeper into sage detail than most film versions (it’s the only version I know in which Limited Tim is shown in repose — it’s handled tastefully and sensitively by director and actors) .

For many years, all you could earn on video was the abridged, hour-long version prepared for the educational market in 1941. (This shorter version is well edited and continues to be a budget-price video perennial.) Happily, this unusual DVD release derives from the current 1935 release, distributed theatrically in America by Paramount. There are about 20 more minutes of footage in this modern restoration, and the narrate and sound are beneficial, definitely pleasurable to the usual video versions that vary in quality. For those who are more familiar with the Alastair Sim and George C. Scott interpretations, give Sir Seymour a try. He’ll construct himself quite at home.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Scrooge! Click Here

If you’re eager in the shorter version, it has been colorized. Amazon offers it here: Scrooge.

There are several versions of this on DVD. This review is for the Front Row DVD. I’m contented to say that despite the cheap ticket, the disc is quite acceptable. There ARE a lot of scratches on the print, but the describe is interesting (for it’s age) and the sound is very sure. Best of all, the film is complete. This same title is available from Marengo Films as a double feature, but it’s missing 17 minutes of footage. (Inspect my review for details.)
As for the movie, it’s not the best version of the record, but it’s pleasant and worthwhile for any Christmas Carol collection. It contains scenes on a ship and in a lighthouse that are taken from the book, but rarely filmed. It also has one scene that isn’t in ANY other version — Bob Cratchit mourning over the body of Exiguous Tim, upstairs in their home. It’s in the book, but a trusty surprise on film. On the other hand all but one of the ghosts is invisible. Oh well. Rob it anyway, and Merry Christmas!

2nd Gig’s opening has been relentless and gallant, leaving us to wonder, “so will any of these episodes truly ‘Stand-alone’ as they did last season? ” Well, the reply is “not really” but the motion is so safe that it won’t matter.

However, in these four episodes, we have our greatest change-of-pace away from the Individualist Eleven storyline, so bask in what you win here.

My review is working off of fansubs, with the purpose of informing– so some translations may differ from our ending results in the USA.

Episode 13: “Face”/”Make-up”

After the horrid raze of Episode 12 where folks were literally losing their heads, we are slammed abet into the aftermath where we attempt to figure out “What’s up with that Kuze fellow? ” The walk leads us to a specialist cyborg facemaker who’s been recently establish out of business by none other than our have Share 9 muscle– Paz. Questions abound as we are given a window into this supporting cast member’s life outside of work, and what consequences such a life renders.

Episode 14: “Beware the Left Glimpse” / “Poker Face”

You know the scene– a battered war worn sits playing cards with the rookies and he tells them about that one time he was “truly tremulous” and saw what the make-up of his commander really was. In this episode Saito describes to the rookies his first encounter with the Major– and the best section is that they weren’t at all on the same side. It’s tons of fun to eye a younger Batou and Ishikawa trade quips, and always fun to watch a “background” character like Saito in the lead.

Episode 15: “Afternoon of the Machines” / “PAT.”

TACHIKOMA!!! That’s moral, it’s the gang sitting around and playing philosophy again. This episode sets up some of the more considerable parts of this season’s Tachikoma arc. While most of the crew is getting a tune-up and discussing the finer points of cybernetic life, Batou’s personal Tachikoma goes with section of the Piece 9 team to perform some outside investigations… and the result brings the Tachikomas face-to-face with someone unexplicably familiar.

Episode 16: “The Fact of Being There” / “Another Chance”

And all attention befriend to the main location. This episode is spent slowly unveiling Kuze backstory. The dim fraction? Kuze’s unprejudiced not as “frigid” as last season’s Laughing Man. The complex web be placed will pay off with a bang-up rest of the series…

Certain to be packaged with more exquisite interviews and extras, let’s hope that maybe Bandai/Manga Entertainment plug us OST 3 for the Special Edition.

Anyways, appreciate this disc– there’s only a couple more “side-story” episodes left, and then the final plunge; with a sage arc that’s more intense (and oddly inspired by the recent manga) than most of what we’ve seen thus far.

As a Journalist in the U.S., I am pleasantly surprised at how cessation 2nd gig is following dependable world situations, especially in the region of illegal immigration the U.S. I feel 2nd gig is providing us with a watch of the future and what “might” happen if President Bush gets his “immigrant worker site” current. As far as Anti-Americanism is concerned, more people need to study the first season and this unusual season (2nd gig) to understand how nations around the world peer us. This is a astonishing frail series that needs to be placed along side some of the best movies and television shows that have received famous acclaim.

I really like this because i contemplate 2 vs. 2 duels are comely icy! Even though mai isn’t in it i mild mediate its pleasant! All 3 episodes are about Joey and Yugi Vs. Two Ryhming bald brothers. Its fair so chilly. If joey and Yugi bag they will have enough star chips to acquire into the castle if they lose they are trapped in the caves forever. The duel is about one of the brothers playing a maze card and all the monsters can swagger their monster level for example the unlit magicians level is 7 so he can drag 7 spaces or less and eventually the bald brothers play a card called the gate gaurdian that isnt gracious for yugi and joey! Also theres a regain if your partner loses you BOTH Lose!!!

Point Blank

Average User Rating:Average customer review:

Leave it to John Boorman to combine the stylized storytelling of French Recent Wave with American film noir in “Point Blank”. This keen, intelligent movie was made in 1967 when the film world was in the embrace of experimental film. Although it’s quite different from “Blow Up”, the storytelling style is fair as stylized and new. Lee Marvin plays Walker a criminal cheated out of $93,000 from a robbery of a mob like syndicate on Alcatraz by his best friend Reese(John Vernon) . Participating in the heist/murder is Walker’s young wife who has been having an affair with Reese. After getting the money, Reese shoots his friend, takes his wife and leaves him for lifeless on Alcatraz.

With the relieve of a mysterious benefactor (Keenan Wynn), Walker tracks down Reese exacting revenge in pursuit for what he’s owed. When his wife commits suicide, Walker seeks out her sister Chris (Angie Dickinson) in hope of luring Reese out of hiding. From there this convoluted mystery spins more threads than director John Boorman knows what to do with but, surprisingly, he keeps the account from getting too tangled up.

Boorman and director Steven Soderbergh (”Ocean’s 11″, “Solaris”, “Sex Lies and Videotape”) provide a moving commentary track on the making of the movie. Boorman recalls that originally Lee Marvin wanted Peggy Lee for the role that Dickinson plays. While he went with Boorman’s decision of Dickinson he wasn’t very nice to his co-star which worked particularly during the scene where Dickinson starts hitting Marvin. Dickinson hit Marvin so hard he had bruises the next day but the actor stoically took the hits and the camera kept rolling. Boorman also discusses the stylized advance he uses in shooting the film including a sequence in Walker’s deceased wife’s apartment that where the body disappears in an almost dream like sequence, the furniture disappears and Marvin’s clothes change. The studio was so concerned when it saw the first gash of this sequence it hired a psychologist to arrive talk to the director.

Featuring a heavenly transfer from Warner Home Video and a nearly perfect sign modern print of the film, “Point Blank” looks keen with shimmering colors. The mono soundtrack with some of its novel sound effects (the sound of Walker’s feet providing a percussive element to one sequence in particularly) also sounds remarkably definite. There’s also a two section promo featurette “The Rock” which focuses on the shooting of the movie on Alcatraz (it was the first movie shot there since the prison closed in 1963 and had been turned into a dwelling park) . Using San Francisco, Santa Monica and Los Angeles as a backdrop, the film features blooming cinematography. If Don Siegel had watched the French Original Wave prior to making some of his noir laced thrillers, this is what it might have looked like.

Remade with Mel Gibson as a more ragged looking thriller called “Payback”, “Point Blank” features Marvin in one of his most stoic, much and grim performances. His character of Walker leaves a run of tiring, bodies without remorse or regret in pursuit of what is rightfully his. Unlike a lot of films that incorporated the surreal touch of the French Unusual Wave (such as Truffaut’s “Shoot the Piano Player” or any of Goddard’s films), “Point Blank” has weak remarkably well with Boorman’s stylized employ of sets, camera spot ups, flasbacks, etc. suggesting what’s really going on inside of Walker’s head. There’s also a suggestion that maybe Walker didn’t survive (particularly during the last sequence) and that “Point Blank” represents the dying delusion of a man thirsting for revenge. A respectable film filled with many, many levels, this classic thriller does not have a straight forward yarn so if you’re expecting a realistic film noir or memoir, you should sight elsewhere.

This review is for the Warner Brothers DVD released in 2005.

`Point Blank’ starts out in an abandoned Alcatraz Prison circa 1967 where Walker (Lee Marvin), his wife, and Mal Reese (John Vernon - probably best remembered as Dean Wormer in `Animal House’) capture an apparently illegal money payoff. Once the money is counted, Reese shoots Walker in a prison cell leaving him for expressionless and takes Walker’s $93,000. Walker recovers from the shooting and with the abet of a stranger named Yost (Keenan Wynn), Walker finds out that Reese and Walker’s wife ran off to Los Angeles and Reese is now a mountainous player in a major crime syndicate. This sets up the rest of the movie where Walker hunts down Reese but also wants all of this $93,000 assist.

The movie is clearly sunless in mood and substance, even though it was filmed in vibrant color. Angie Dickenson plays the role of Walker’s sister-in-law Chris, who helps him rep Reese. The chemistry between Chris and Walker seems overtly empty and heart-broken. An challenging Carroll O’Conner (best known for playing Archie Bunker in ‘All in the Family’) brings a lot of energy to the last segment of the movie. The film has an unmistakably slack `60’s contemplate with quickly and chaotic flashbacks and over-accentuated sound effects - such as loud, reverberating footsteps when an intensely focused Lee Marvin is hunting down Reese. This movie is more sexual and violent than noir films of the `40’s and `50’s, but is collected restrained by today’s standards. The film’s biggest asset is how Lee Marvin confronts and handles his adversaries - each space is new and effective, but not over the top. The location as a whole has very few major surprises, although there is one minor twist in the demolish. Overall, it’s an extremely expedient movie, but not a huge one, but I calm strongly recommend it.

As for the DVD, the transfer is apt. The relate quality is free of even the tiniest of flaws and the color is knowing and quick-witted and the sharpness is terrific for a film this primitive. The audio is also obedient. There is option real-time commentary by director John Boorman and filmmaker Steven Soderbergh, plus two short features, both made when the film was being shot in the unhurried `60’s entitled the Rock Portion I &II. These two documentaries deal with the filming of the scenes on Alcatraz that were stale in `Point Blank’. Piece II also contains a short interview with a obsolete prisoner who did time on “The Rock”..
