The 1944 movie is a World-War-II film whereas the others are film-noir flicks. [Incidentally, Bacall played opposite Betty Grable and Marilyn Monroe in How to marry a millionaire (1953) . The film has an in-joke: the Bacall character says: “I’ve always liked older men. Examine at Roosevelt, ogle at Churchill, sight at that used fella what’s his name in The African Queen. Absolutely crazy about him.” Bacall is referring to her real-life husband, Humphrey Bogart.]

The box place “Bogie & Bacall: The signature collection” (DVD 7/06) collects the four Bogart-Bacall movies in a convenient hump case to house appropriately four plastic sustain cases but awkwardly four cardboard snap cases. The four films in the box state near in plastic support cases and are

also available separately. The previous releases were in cardboard snap cases but are level-headed available. Side B of the keep-case DVD is not clearly labeled as such.

Warner was remiss in not issuing with the box site a brief booklet on Bogart and Bacall.

In conclusion, if you have the four snap-case editions, they are not outdated, and with reasonable care the cardboard snap cases wear well. However, if you are a Bogart collector lusting for the nice move case for the quartet of films, collect the box region with the plastic keep-case editions and give your snap-case editions to a friend or relative.

This long overdue collection of the four films Bogie and Betty made together is an absolute must have for fans of both Forties flicks and of course the greatest romantic screen-team in Hollywood history. Starting with ‘To Have and Have Not’, which was Lauren Bacall’s debut film, as has been said many times before one can literally perceive the pair drop in savor on-screen a la Garbo and Gilbert in ‘Flesh and the Devil’. The anecdote is pure Hemingway with astonishing succor from Walter Brennan and Hoagy Carmichael among others.

Next came ‘The Colossal Sleep’, a astounding (if not baffling!) film noir adapted from the well-liked unique by Raymond Chandler. Betty never looked more glamourous and sexy than she does in this one.

Their third film togather was the highly underrated ‘Dark Passage’, another noir gem expertly directed by the equally underrated Delmer Daves with reliable succor from Agnes Moorehead and Bruce Bennet. Bogie plays a framed innocent man unprejudiced escaped from San Quentin who is aided and abetted by Bacall after winning her trust.

The fourth and unfortunately last film with the pair is ‘Key Largo’, more in the vein of ‘To Have and Have Not’ than the previous two. The best supporting cast of all four films includes Claire Trevor (who won Best Supporting Actress), Lionel Barrymore and Edward G. Robinson in one of his last tough-guy gangster roles. In her book, Bacall describes the experience of making this film as one of the happiest memories of her career with daily afternoon tea served in her dressing room!

The stamp of this site considering the high-quality of the prints and the marvellous and relevant extras included by Warner’s makes this location wonderful value for money. Don’t reflect twice, find it!

This DVD has been taken from a early-forties era documentary film made with Stateside audiences in mind. It was probably shown in theaters before the main shows during the war years. One of the stout pluses is that the film is in color, and that the color is strikingly obedient for a combat film. Directed by Academy Award winner William Wyler (best known for ‘Ben-Hur’ and the current documentary of ‘The Memphis Belle’), the film depicts life–and death–in a P-47 Thunderbolt squadron based in Italy. It gives the viewer a splendid watch at Italy, not unbiased the sinister itself. The strafing runs are marvelous, taken by a camera mounted in the planes on real missions. For a wartime propaganda film, it is quite fair and deals with the suffering of noncombatants, showing bombed-out buildings, children playing approach a burned corpse, and haggard, war-weary men and women. The aerial footage is qualified, the dialogue is proper, and the quality of the portray is also honorable. The film also shows the tragic results of a Thunderbolt smash quite graphically, as if to remind the viewer that war is a perilous game and that there is never any guarantee that the pilots will return from their missions. This color film runs around 45 minutes. It is well worth the tag.

Along with “Memphis Belle” this heavenly film stands up there with the best documentary features of the era. Using wartime film equipment, (no savor Hollywood gear!) William Wyler (Ben-Hur) did his piece for the war inconvenience, with style and class (and a small humor!) . A combination of propaganda and straight up impartial filmmaking, ‘Thunderbolt’ is a film worth buying.

Shot on 16mm Kodachrome, You wont contemplate ultrafine images or splendid sound. The color and inequity are sometimes harsh. But this was War, and filmmaking in a combat zone isn’t easy, under harsh conditions Wyler’s film survived to become the just classic it is today.

I’m not entirely certain why I rented this movie, but I suspect it’s because Bruce Campbell was enthusiastic. The belief of Bruce Campbell and Quentin Tarantino connected to a panic movie is enough to build me plunk down ten bucks to explore anything they do in the theater. Fortunately, this movie went directly to video, so I didn’t raze my ten bucks.

Bruce isn’t really in the film. He’s in a film within a film and he dies early. Grrr. If you’re a fan of Tiffani-Amber Thiessen, she dies along with him.

And what do they die from? Why, bats of course. Vampire bats, to be proper. Bats figure as villains in this movie, which is discouraged as they’re not particularly scary and gape like dreadful Halloween decorations most of the time. Must all bats flop around like two fish connected by a wire hanger? Don’t any of them coast?

Anyway, the area, such as it is, involves four guys planning to occupy a bank in Mexico: C.W. the safecracker (Muse Watson), Ray Bob the dimwitted comedic relief (Brett Harrelson), Jesus the muscle (Raymod Cruz), and Buck the Main Character (Robert Patrick) . Luther the mastermind (Duane Whitaker) is supposed to meet up with them at some random seedy hotel, but on the design he hits a bat.

No not the baseball bat, but a grand vampire bat. He runs over it with his jeep then shoots it with his gun. Of course, that’s a vampire he shot, who eventually bites Luther. Luther decides to go on with the bank heist and keeps his appointment, slowly turning the other members into vampires.

“Why would vampires want to retract a bank? ” asked Buck of Sheriff Lawson (Bo Hopkins), who was hunting him before they banded together to demolish vampires.

“I thunder vampires need money too,” says Lawson.

Vampires in this series are neat vulnerable to sunlight. They can turn into bats at will. They are invulnerable to most weapons but die if anything pokes through their heart (steel rods, antlers, you name it) . But most hysterical of all, they are panicked of ANYTHING IN THE SHAPE OF A Execrable.

I have to restate the ludicrousness of this vulnerability, because at one point one of the vampires is upset by a CROSSBAR. That is, a naturally occurring series of apt angles. At various moments throughout the movie, characters suddenly remember to compose the mark of the tainted with whatever their holding. Apparently, it never strikes anyone that they should objective set aside up their fingers in a wicked. Or their arms. Or two shoes.

Eventually, the Mexican police exhibit up and then the carnage begins. In between, we have a homage to Reservoir Dogs, Psycho, and Substandard Dull. In fact, the director (Scott Spiegel) takes the Sam-o-cam to fresh heights. We gain the blood-puddle cam, the inside-a-vampire’s-mouth cam, and the ultra rare up-the-phone-cord cam. When a character cracks a first-rate, the camera moves around in circles from the dial on the safe’s point of conception. When a character walks by a animated fan, we gawk the fan’s point of opinion. Inspired moviemaking at its finest.

In the middle of all this is the obligatory solar eclipse, which extends the carnage for another twenty minutes.

From Dusk Till Dawn: Texas Blood Money is not a reliable film, but it never tries to be. Completely unpretentious, it seeks to add to the direct-to-video panic bin. In that regard it succeeds admirably.

It seems Quentin Tarantino & Robert Rodrigues wanted to do a franchise series without any opinion apart from trying to milk money out of unsuspecting filmgoers. This and the 3rd installment went straight to video so they knew the sequels were not up to par with the recent. FDTD 2 is very predictable so there are no surprises, not even the gory vampire killings. The only reason to sight this movie (especially if you’re a male) is to witness Playboy Playmate Maria Checa in a brief supporting role in which she is killed in a shower scene directly ripped off from Hitchcock’s PSYCHO.

The second in Roddy Doyle’s The Barrytown Trilogy, after The Commitments, this film like The Van, which follows, features author Roddy Doyle writing his fill screenplay, Stephen Frears as director, Oliver Stapleton as cinematographer, and actor Colm Meaney (playing the father Des, here) as the emotional bridge among the characters, appearing in all three films and giving a sense of continuity among them. Spot in north Dublin in a lower working class neighborhood where many families consume their whole lives, the film shows the reliance on humor when life might otherwise be too tragic to handle. Based on the second book in Roddy Doyle’s Dublin trilogy, The Snapper is a wickedly silly contemplate into the lives of a working class Irish family. The eldest daughter of a stout family becomes pregnant and refuses to name the father. Not your worn silly premise, but in this case it works beautifully. The characters are fully developed and presented in such a manner that you care deeply about them, and experience their injure as well as their joy. Ancient actor Colm Meaney (Star Wander DS9), who appears in the other two films that invent up the trilogy (The Commitments and The Van), masterfully carries the record as the father of the unruly brood. He comes across as a ample man who tries to do the fair thing and loves his family, but is painfully human at every turn. The rest of the cast is mostly unknown but very believable and edifying. I highly recommend this film (and the books, too) . It may be the closest you ever earn to Dublin without actually crossing the Atlantic.

I typically esteem these kind of movies, where the main character is status up to experience a life-or-death dwelling that causes apt growth (like Sara Connor in the first Terminator movie) . But it ends up being a lot of aimless running around in the woods made to place up situations where Basinger can extinguish her pursuers with items found in the toolbox from her car.

There are moments where she does even not try to procure away — instead she continues to hang around approach her pursuers and listen to their conversations. There are other places where she’s so clumsy and noisy it’s ridiculous. And the scene where she actually starts seducing one of the boys is humorous. Basinger has always been one of my least favorites actresses, but even Meryl Streep couldn’t have made this work…

Not until the final scene does she note signs of turning into someone different than the lame, superficial, brow-beaten housewife she started out as, and as satisfying as that is, it wasn’t worth watching the whole movie to accept there.

Someone I respect greatly recommended this film. No more film recommendations from this person. The credits go on entirely too long, in piece because there are 20 or so executive producers, Kim Basinger and Benicio Del Toro included. Del Toro’s a feeble enough actor, but this movie proves he has even less talent for the production slay.

Basinger plays a beaten-down housewife to an abusive husband (Sheffer), who ticks off a local gang (of four–a celebrated bunch) in a mall parking lot. After they kill the security guard who attempts to befriend her, they lag her in order to rape and destroy her. Thus begins a formulaic and unrealistic trek and “beaten down woman realizes her power” chronicle. Other than the methods she uses to destroy the punks, everything is predictable, including the ending.

Even with all that, there are some idiotic things that detached nagged at me:

1) Basinger’s character uses items from her car’s toolbox to demolish the punks. Despite taking more and more things from it, it never rattles and gives away her place. Her gasping, freezing in situation, shrieking, and urinating do more to give her away.

2) The movie’s station on Christmas Eve, but during most of the forest sequences, nobody’s breath steams.

3) This movie contains a double cliche: the too-intelligent multiracial gang. The gang is PC to the nth degree with one Caucasian, one African-American (-Canadian? ), one Hispanic, and one Vietnamese. Gangs design out of current factors, urge being the most obvious–can we please have a realistic bunch of punks on film? They also don’t expend words like “incendiary” or survey wistful when talking about “seeing the ocean unprejudiced once.”

If you want to perceive a top-notch crime sage with Lukas Haas, either derive “Behold” or “Brick.”

So while we’re waiting for the coming of the Naruto Shippuden saga don’t pass these broad box sets over unbiased yet as you’ll probably bag more enjoyment in watching these episodes more than you contemplate…

A lot of people are aggravated by the filler episodes before Shippuuden begins, but I salvage them attractive and yes somewhat perceive roll apt at times. But that’s okay because you know that once Shippuuden rolls around there won’t be anymore filler episodes like these again. That’s why I didn’t mind them at all.

This is the first Clifford video my daughter has rented from the library, and she adores it. We’ll probably seize it soon.

She is unbiased learning about Halloween at age 2 1/2, so she loved the episodes about a ghost and the plunge festival. She also loved the episode where Mac feels guilty about ruining a sweater and runs away from home. Really, there were no episodes she didn’t indulge in. I liked that it’s not shapely fast-paced, loud, or annoying! We also adore the Clifford books, so this ties in well with them.

I was pleasantly surprised! Reminds me a bit of Minute Maintain, in terms of the low-key noise levels and storylines that subtly assure a lesson. Appreciate!

I only wish the biography was longer, more comprehensive of his entire life’s work, rather than going on mostly about the Watergate affair. But overall, a must-see, even if you’re not at all a Nixon fan. It’s aesthetic fairly balanced, for those who esteem him and disfavor him.

I judge the video did a superb job of explaining the presidency of Richard Nixon. However, I contemplate the video should have focused more on Nixon’s excellent qualities. The video could have dealt more on his early family history. The video could have mentioned something about his stance on Civil Rights early in his career. No one doubts that Nixon did disagreeable during the Watergate episode. In spite of this, Richard Nixon had a profound influence on American foreign policy. One expect I ask is “What would have happened if Nixon had won in 1960? ” We probably would not have had the Bay of Pigs, the Cuban Missile Crisis and the Vietnam debacle. I also believe Nixon would have advanced Civil Rights in a more forward manner than Kennedy. The put a question to will never be answered, but it is fun to judge about.

Like Antonio Banderas in “The 13th Warrior” and Director Robert Zemeckis in his 2008 CGI film, “Outlander” takes on the classic narrative of Beowulf, but unlike those films it does it with a sci-fi twist. The “Grendel” monster in this film has celestial origins considerable like the titular Outlander played by Jim Caviezal. The monster gain was one of the most pleasantly surprising aspects of the film; its view was unusual and had the correct mix of frosty and creepy.

Some drawbacks to this film include a few flashback scenes with former CGI, relatively uncharismatic male leads, and a few uncommon casting choices–John Wound as a Viking king? In disagreement the astonishing Ron Perlman was cast perfectly yet sorely underused. Those complaints aside, “Outlander” is overall a tightly paced, action packed, and engaging prefer on the English language’s oldest adventure epic.

I got a chance to search for this in the theatres thanks to a friend of mine with a titillating study. It was only released in a VERY itsy-bitsy engagement - in my status, only one theatre ran it for a week. What a shame!

This movie is a must-see for fans of sci-fi movies like the first Terminator, movies like Ice Pirates, or Pitch Dusky. It has its hold astounding mythology, and the casting is enormous. Could’ve seen more of Ron Pearlman, though.

Yes, there are a couple of cheesy moments, but the safe stuff far outweighs the terrible. Very very delectable film. Looking forward to a disc release, and hopefully an extended edition - rumor has it that Weinstein and Co trimmed 15 min off the demolish to perform the movie fit on one less reel, saving money.

I originally saw this film in a local theater during an International Film Festival, and not long later a co-worker, having heard me rave about it a few times, bought me the video for Christmas. I have watched my Kolya video about once a year since, and I never tire of it. It is unprejudiced amazing. I don’t gather subtitles distracting if they’re done well, which they are here (brief sentences, no white text against a backdrop of white walls or tablecloths!) Having always wanted to visit Prague, about which I’ve heard only improbable things, I like the film’s setting. I reflect the acting is extraordinary, the music splendid, and the state charming. You also learn (or are reminded of) some relatively novel and challenging Czech history as an added relieve. There are many clever, poignant and witty cinematic moments in this film (watching it more than once helps you gain them all) . And I am utterly smitten by Louka’s attractive, romantic tower apartment!! I want one!

This film charms me in such a unruffled, touching, unassuming scheme every time I glimpse it. I’m gratified it’s fragment of my collection.

And, I might add, this pretty Czech film deserved to pick up these coveted awards.

I have recently been fortunate to have had the opportunity to stare some shiny Foreign Language Films and KOYLA is one of the best. When it was over, I objective sat there not wanting to leave this ravishing exiguous boy and the man who opened his heart to this child. So, I watched the extras and it made me cherish this movie even more after seeing the commentary. Zdenek Sverak, the resplendent lead character in Koyla also wrote the chronicle. It took him over a year because he set so grand into it. Sometimes he would have to achieve it away for a couple of months because it was too heart wrenching. In my estimation, Sverak is a genius–what a compelling, aesthetic and evocative record. And, his hide presence was fantastic. A accurate family affair, Sverak’s son, Jan, is the director.

After a search spanning several countries, an unknown child, five-year-old Andrej Chalimon was found in Moscow. This petite boy is so gifted and so natural, he took my breath away and melted my heart. Alas, she leaves slack the most adorable child I have ever seen on film. The memoir does have some twists and turns and all but the hardest of hearts will shed a mosey.

I loved this movie very, very remarkable. It is a heart-warming, racy, and arresting anecdote that I will never forget. I notion to seize this film so I can fraction it with my friends and family. Oh–and I almost forgot to mention the music. Wow, it was amazing and it enhanced an awesome recount.
